How BlipDate works
What happens at each step, in plain words.
1. Check in at a place
Tap Share where I am. Your phone looks up places near its approximate position, and you pick one: a café, a bar, a gym, your office building. Only the place is saved, never your coordinates.
Homes, schools, places of worship, clinics and other sensitive places are never offered. A check-in lasts one, two or four hours; you can stay longer or check out at any time.
2. See rounded counts
While you’re checked in, you see two numbers for the distance you choose: singles nearby, and how many of them match you. They’re shown as ranges, like 5–9 or fewer than 5, so nobody can be pinpointed.
A match means you each meet the other’s must-haves. When someone who matches you checks in nearby, you may get a quiet nudge. It never says who, where or how far.
3. Switch on Ready to meet
Switch on Ready to meet when you’d be happy to meet a match now. It lasts up to an hour, ends when you check out, and nobody can see it. People nearby who match you get a nudge that someone is ready, with no details.
You also choose how far you’d go, from 500 m to 10 km. You’re only introduced to someone within both of your limits. The first time you switch on Ready, you verify that you’re 18 or over.
4. The host’s questions
When two people who match are both ready and near each other, the host starts an introduction. It talks to each of you privately and asks the same short series of 4 to 10 questions, which you answer at your own pace.
The host isn’t an AI: it follows fixed rules that compare your answers and interests. Neither of you sees the other’s answers, name, photo or distance, and you can leave the introduction at any time.
5. A mutual yes, then chat
If the host thinks you’d click, it asks you both at the same moment whether you’d like to be introduced. Neither of you sees the other’s answer first. Only if you both say yes does chat open, with an icebreaker and a suggested public place to meet.
Every other ending looks the same to both people: “This introduction has ended.” Nobody learns that they were turned down.
Noticed someone?
If someone at the same venue catches your eye, tap I’ve noticed someone and describe them with a few set choices, such as hair or what they’re wearing. No photos and no free text.
Nothing happens unless they noticed you too and each description fits. Until then you only see “No news yet”, whatever the reason. If it’s mutual, the host asks you both two short questions, then whether you’d like to be introduced.
To be found this way, add how to recognise you today. It’s optional and stays fixed for that check-in.
